In the year 2012, a terrible sickness washed over the globe, infecting nearly every human who merely breathed in its fumes. Some say the sickness was started by just some rotton rat carcasses deep in the sewer mixed with human waste. Some say it was a mad scientist's project gone wrong. Still, others say it wasn't a sickness at all, but an alien invasion sent down to earth from another world to take over the planet, but no one knows for sure as all these ideas sound crazy and unlikely. Later that year the human race was completely wiped out. Doctors just couldn't cure patients, because they didn't have the right medicine and soon they, too got infected and became to ill to do their jobs. The world became a dead lifeless place. That is, until the dog's realized the humans were gone.
All the dog in New York City divided into four bands, or Gangs; The Obsidian Gang, the Sachrani Gang, and Saffron Gang, and the Sobaent Gang. They developed a form of 'government'. Bosses led the gangs, and generals were their 'second-in-command' who took over after the boss resigned or died. Each gang has its own set of rules and punishments, and they each have claimed their own territory around the once beautiful, human filled city. They now live life without the humans, which is better for those who were street dogs before being chased and ran over by the humans cars, and harder for those who used to be pampered pooches.

Life on the Streets « Thread Started on Dec 21, 2007, 10:59am »
The rain pitter pattered on the roof of the abandoned apartment building. This was one of the many apartments in New York City, once inhabited by humans. A tortoiseshell she-cat crouched in a moss bedding inside one of the corners of the building. Underneath her sat three kittens; one tortoiseshell, one black, and one white. The small white kit raised her head, her indigo eyes staring directly at her mother. "Mommy, what happened to all the humans?" The mother cat looked warmly down at her daughter. "Well, Echo, we cats hardly know. But I was told an illness swept through and destroyed them all, a long, long time ago." She finally answered. The black kit was sitting up now, staring up at the tortoiseshell as well. "If it was so long ago, why are there still humans outside?" The tortoiseshell mother chuckled, trying to gather an answer. "Well, I suppose its because they are only the bones, I'm surprise most of them have not disappeared yet. I guess thats because they don't go anywhere when they die. But I don't know if that's true..."
"Dawn?" A black tomcat appeared at the entrance to the apartment. "How are the kits?" Echo jumped to her paws and raced immediately over to the tom. "Daddy!" She squealed. The other two kits soon followed. Dawn raised her head from where she had been staring at her it, and rested her gaze on her mate. "They are doing fine, Scar," She mewed warmly. "I just had to tell them about the humans..." Scar nodded. "I knew they would ask about that soon... when I was introducing them to the city, they saw the bones laying about and I had to tell them what they were." Dawn padded over to the four cats. She brushed against Scar and twined her tail with his. She had heard that before the humans had been wiped out, you could hardly roam the streets without a catnapper, or dogcatcher some called it when they caught dogs, picking you off the street. Or a pedestrian kicking you for brushing against its leg. Dawn realized how easy life was for them. _________________________________________________________
So basically, the human species alltogether has been wiped out by some unknown source, but rumor has it it was a horrible sickness not prone to animals. Now, cats and dogs rule the streets, but not in an unorderly way. In New York City, a once inhabited, busy place, four groups rule. Two gangs of dogs; Obsidian Gang and the Sachrani Gang, and two Colonies of cats; the Sobaent Colony and the Saffron Colony. A boss leads each gang, and a general sucseeds the boss and helps lead the gang. A leader leads each colony and a deputy sucseeds the leader and helps lead the colony. Cats have different terms than the dogs, and the dogs have different terms than the cats. However, both languages are understandable by the other species, however confusing. The gangs and colonies are all against each other, and occasionally allianced for various reasons. Who's side will you pick?
